The Great Pyrenees Club of Puget Sound, which was founded in 1972, is
an affiliate of the
Great Pyrenees Club of America and is sanctioned by The American
Kennel Club. Our purpose, as stated in our Constitution, is "to advance
and protect the interest of purebred Great Pyrenees and to do all
possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection." Our
Code of Ethics further
states that the club shall, "..promote and foster the highest standards
among breeders and owners and encourage sportsmanship and cooperation in
the improvement and advancement of our breed."
The club conducts many activities to accomplish these goals. In the
past these activities have included educational and informational forums
for the public and our members. We have also hosted four National
Specialty shows which were attended by over 100 Great Pyrenees and their
owners. In conjunction with the Portland area club, we also host a
summer Great Pyrenees
specialty in Canby, Oregon where 60-70 dogs are shown.
Member activities have included picnic-potlucks, sanctioned matches
and an annual Christmas Party, our only event that does not include
dogs. You will often find discussions and/or demonstrations of some aspect of the breed and
its ownership, or educational seminars relating to general animal
husbandry, included in our dog related activities.
We run a regular puppy referral program and participate in several
all breed public information activities during the year. We have an
established Rescue network for
the breed in Western Washington and work closely with our "sister" club,
the
Columbia Cascade Great Pyrenees Club, which is based
in the Portland/Vancouver area. We participate at a local level in the
activities of The Great Pyrenees Club of America. Our members include active breeders and exhibitors, and devoted and
interested owners of family companions. All Great Pyrenees are important
and fill a purpose in their owners' lives. The Club is devoted to the
interests and welfare of all Great Pyrenees and their owners. We invite anyone who owns or admires Great Pyrenees to join our Club and
participate in our activities. For further information, visit our
contacts page. |
